SoDak Media Group is many things. At least, the hope is that it will be. Time will tell which dreams come to fruition, but we fully intend on being a blog, a record label, a publisher, an event promoter, a community, and so on and so forth... Our vision; however, is much more simple: to breathe life into certain dying forms of physical media, and to cultivate arts and culture in the Midwest.

We’re in love with scooping the newspaper off of the cold concrete stoop, and with the early morning scent that is the collision of its inky contents and a steaming cup of freshly-brewed coffee. Nothing beats holding art in our hands, paging through lyrics and liner notes while the needle rides the grooves of our favorite wax. We fondly remember reading handwritten letters from grandmas, grandpas, and friends, and thinking about the fact that they sat down with pen and ink and paper and us on their minds. Or how about the times we convened with our elders around a box of faded photographs?…each one containing a unique and brilliant story, untold if not for the gathering, and unfelt if not for those discolored prints. Separating art from physical media is a tragedy—a tragedy that strips away a portion of art’s connectivity, and one that we won’t tolerate.

We hope to catalog effective instances of physicality in all areas of media, and to create a few of them ourselves.
